Client Background

American Custom Contractors is an exterior home improvement contracting company, serving the Washington DC metro area from their home office in Rockville, Maryland.

They specialize in home roofing, siding and window installation services for clients in Maryland and Virginia. While their service area is fairly small, it is a fiercely competitive market.

In order to stay at the top of Google search results for their highly competitive keywords (such as “roofing Maryland”) American Custom Contractors spends a large portion of their marketing budget on AdWords PPC every month.

ACC has a beautiful custom website - designed by Gravitate Design Studio a few years ago - complete with a project photo gallery and video tutorials. But they have struggled with PageRank and organic search engine rankings. So ACC hired Rocket Rankings to implement a full SEM campaign, including inbound link building and SEO.

Our goal is to improve their organic rankings enough over time to cut back on their considerable PPC expenditures.

The Challenge

The #1 challenge for the American Custom Contractors SEO campaign is the fierce online and offline competition in their area. Even though their service area is small in terms of square miles, the Washington DC metro area is dense in population and competition from other roofing contractors.

In order to improve their organic search engine rankings, Rocket Rankings had to focus primarily on two fronts: inbound links and site-wide SEO.

The Results

After re-optimizing the ACC website, building new site pages for SEO and dedicating several months to strategic link building, the ACC organic search engine rankings have improved considerably. Their online visibility has increased overall; Google rankings for their core phrases such as “Maryland roofing contractor” have improved, and they are ranking for an increased number of phrases overall. Thanks to this increase in online visibility, their site visitors have increased by almost 20% over last summer.

Next Steps

PageRank continues to be the biggest hurdle for ACC, so we will build strategic inbound links to the site every month (at a measured, Google-approved pace). We will focus on theme-based links and content sites in order to build the best quality links and achieve the biggest impact on PageRank.

Visibility Percentage = 0%

July 2006
By July 2006 the site had 40 total rankings on Google, with 10 in first place.
Visibility Percentage = 43.25%.

As of July 2007, www.americancustomcontractors.com has 258 total listings on Google:

  • 197 in the top 10
